1 ACC BATTERIES
Advance Chemistry Cells (ACCs) are the new generation advance storage technologies that can store electric energy either as electrochemical or as chemical energy and convert it back to electric energy as and when required. In this Programme the technologies shall comprise of ACCs and integrated advanced batteries (Single Units) that suffice the minimum performance specifications.
- The dominant battery technologies will control some of the world’s largest growth sectors such as consumer electronics, electric vehicles, advanced electricity grids, solar roof top etc.
- Accordingly, NITI Aayog had proposed the National Programme on Advance Chemistry Cell Battery Storage (the “Programme” or the “ACC Programme”) to incentivize 50 Giga Watt hours (“GWh”) of ACC manufacturing in the
- The costs are largely brought down by going for large scale In batteries parlance, these are called giga scale factories. The Programme aims to adopt minimum scale of 5 GWh for each mother unit.
2 NICHE ACC TECHNOLOGIES
- In addition to 50 GWh of cumulative ACC capacity proposed under the Programme, there are other “Niche” ACC technologies at the forefront of higher performance (specifically on energy density, not on Cycle life). Most of these technologies are at the pre commercialization stage. Their application is also currently limited due to high cost. It is also proposed that an additional 5GWh of cumulative capacity would be offered to these technologies. The minimum threshold capacity shall be 500 MWh per unit in case of Niche Technology. This initiative would also be technologically agnostic. Only the higher performance parameter (energy density Wh/Kg) would be the pre requisite for being eligible.
